Camanchaca sends first salmon shipment to the US from Bío Bío
(CHILE, 11/7/2017)
Camanchaca on Friday sent the first frozen salmon shipment that is leaving for the United States from the Bío Bío region.
This fact represents an important advance not only for the company but also for the Regional Customs Office and for the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (SERNAPESCA), agencies that processed this export to the US market.
Although the shipment -- made up of 441 boxes of salmon fillets and pieces of salmon -- was sent from Carriel Sur Airport on a flight that does not go directly from Concepción to Miami, it is the first time that all of its shipping procedures have been completed in the area, reported Radio Bío Bío.
The company expects that these shipments from Concepcion to Miami will become something habitual later, with about 5,000 kilos per day sent from Monday to Friday.
According to Antonio Ramírez, corporate logistics and supply manager of Camanchaca, this new export modality allows the salmon from the Los Lagos region, which is processed in Tomé, to reach the international market in a few hours.
This process allows us to shorten the transfer of the product to the United States in about 12 hours in relation to the usual modality, by land and departure from the Santiago airport.
