Marine Harvest laboratory recovers authorization for ISA virus analysis
(CHILE, 3/2/2017)
Marine Harvest Central Laboratory will be able to reuse the ISA virus detection technique, afterwards under the Specific Sanitary Surveillance and Control Program for Infectious Salmon Anemia, it was not allowed to use this technique for some weeks.
The implemented temporary suspension was due to the fact that last year in a Ring test "a small deviation" in one of the evaluated points was detected.
In addition to Marine Harvest Central Laboratory, four other laboratories were re-authorized by the Department of Animal Health of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (SERNAPESCA), which had temporarily been banned from performing analysis using the real-time RT-PCR technique, used for the detection of the infectious salmon anemia virus (ISAV).
Marine Harvest reported in a statement that the suspension had been implemented "after a Ring Test showed a small deviation at one of the points analyzed in the trial, which involved adjusting the technique to increase detection sensitivity. On the other hand, the specificity results were satisfactory. This resulted in a suspension, only in this specific assay for a few weeks."
To recover the authorization, Marine Harvest Laboratory had to participate in a new Ring Test, "this time with very satisfactory results and where the Laboratory of Genetics and Immunology of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Valparaíso determined that the results were favorable, so the National Fisheries Service determined the immediate authorization to continue carrying out this analysis within the framework of the Specific Sanitary Surveillance and Control Program for Infectious Salmon Anemia (PSEVC ISA)," the company said.
Marine Harvest Central Laboratory is accredited under the Chilean Standard ISO 17025, regarding the competence of the test laboratories. Some the accredited techniques are the following: real time RT-PCR ISAv; PCR HPR0 PCR0 via Syber Green probe, real-time RT-PCR IPNv, real-time RT-PCR BKD, DFAT-SRS, IFAT-BKD, Caligus bioassay for in vitro sensitivity assessment for Caligus rogercresseyi to different drugs (for this final category it is the only laboratory accredited in Chile).
