The world's largest online marketplace for live seafood Gfresh will be signing a memorandum of understanding with the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) at the 2016 Global Outlook on Aquaculture Leadership conference in Guangzhou, China, in September.
As part of the agreement, Gfresh will promote seafood producers on its online marketplace that are certified as complying with Best Aquaculture Practices by GAA, thereby showcasing seafood sellers and products that adhere to strict food safety and sustainability criteria.
GAA will in turn promote the Gfresh platform to its members. Together, the two organizations will work to promote sustainability and food safety practices in China and globally.
Gfresh's Vice President and Co-founder, Anthony Wan said: "This partnership with GAA is an important first step that will give Chinese buyers the ability to identify and source seafood that is certified and sustainable."
For his part, GAA's Vice President, Steve Hart stated: "We feel this partnership with Gfresh is well-suited to the Chinese market, where food safety is a major concern for customers.”
In Hart’s view, the food safety component of the BAP standards really offers Chinese retailers a unique marketing tool they can use to satisfy their customers' concerns.
Gfresh's platform, integrated cold-chain logistics, customs handling and final delivery has facilitated USD 150 million in global trade since starting in early 2015.
Its global service makes trade easy by giving suppliers' direct trade with buyers in 10 major Chinese cities (including Shanghai, Guangzhou and Beijing).
