Norway Royal Salmon detects ISA in two smolt sites
(NORWAY, 9/4/2015)
Norway Royal Salmon (NRS) confirmed the detection of infectious salmon anemia (ISA) virus in two smolt production sites belonging to the firm, located in the northern region.
The company estimates that this sanitary issue will represent a one-off cost in the financial results of the third quarter of 2015 of approximately NOK 20 million (USD 2.4 million) - NOK 25 million (USD 3 million).
One of these sites, Baltsfjord, is located in Troms and contains 0.5 million fish with an average weight of 0.35 kilograms.
The biomass at this site will be destroyed within a few days and this fish will be replaced by new smolts. No significant production consequences are expected.
The second site, Kokelv, which received smolt from the same supplier, was tested for infection.
This site contains 1.2 million fish with an average weight of 0.45 kilograms.
NRS informed that it continues to work to identify the extent of the infection at the site and to make the production consequences at Kokelv as small as possible.
“We will come back with more information on this when we release our third quarter reports. It is these two sites that have received smolts from this smolt supplier in 2015 and we consider that there is no risk of further detections,” pointed out a representative of the firm in a release.
