(PERU, 10/21/2013)
The firm Pesquera Diamante invested approximately USD 6.8 million in the unification of its plants Pisco Norte and Pisco Sur, in southern Peru .
The company's general manager, Manuel Salazar, reported they have invested about USD 5 million in environmental processes and further USD 1.8 million in a natural gas system for the production operations of the plant.
The idea is that, starting next year, the plant can begin using natural gas to replace oil.
Salazar stressed that since April they are prepared to use natural gas, and expect the company Contugas can supply the fuel to them, which would take place in early 2014.
The merger of the operations of the two plants will enable the company to have an installed capacity of 178 tonnes per hour in fishmeal and fish oil processing, reported El Comercio.
In 2012 Peru exported a total of 1.3 million tonnes of fishmeal for over USD 1,738 million but the manager of Pesquera Diamante expects that by the end of 2013 there will be a slight decline.
"Shipments will be lower than last year due to the reduced rate that we had in early 2013," he explained.
China remains as the main destination of shipments, followed by the Japanese, Thai and Chilean markets.
