Ventisqueros purchases salmon department from Congelados Pacífico

The firm Productos del Mar Ventisqueros SA announced having agreed to buy the salmon department from Congelados Pacífico, with the aim of strengthening its seafood segment.
It is expected that after the acquisition, Ventisqueros -- linked to Schörghuber Group --reaches a production volume of 50,000 tonnes per year.
"The acquisition of the salmon department from Congelados Pacífico, based in Puerto Montt, will allow Ventisqueros to obtain the best of both companies," said the firm CEO, Cristián Swett.
"The future strategy will be to operate both companies with a single administration, targeting more the Atlantic salmon production," he added.
The executive also said that "production volumes will be evaluated according to the health and market conditions," Diario Financiero reported.
The agreement, which was reached on 24 April, begins the formal acquisition process through purchase of shares.
This process involves new conditions, such as independence in the whole production line and ownership of two reproducers fish farms, four nursery hatcheries, two smolting fish farms, a lake centre, 43 sea concessions, a storage facility and three in-process plants.
Ventisqueros chairman and deputy member of the Board of Schörghuber Group, Christoph Michl stated that with the purchase of the salmon department from Congelados Pacífico, they have "found a company that complements Ventisqueros assets in a perfect manner" and that will allow them to progress faster in their strategy.
According to Aqua, Congelados Pacífico will retain and strengthen its operations in Talcahuano related to fishing and the white fishing process.
Last February, Chilean fishing industry sources announced the start of negotiations between executives from both companies to settle a merger.
The talks had started some months ago, considering what was informed by Estrategia.
