Lumar is Expanding its MSC Product Line

  (SPAIN, 11/9/2011)

Responding to the demands and needs of consumers, Lumar Natural Seafood has expanded its MSC sustainable product line.

For many years Lumar Natural Seafood has conducted a company policy recognized internationally for its concern and for promoting responsible and sustainable fisheries.

Since the inception of certification systems such as the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) and the Friend of the Sea (FOS), Lumar has worked directly with Spanish and international ship owners which implemented Lumar’s fisheries policy to prevent overfishing and another disrespectful environmental practices.

Lumar produces, distributes and sells value-added and high quality frozen products and from sustainable fisheries

Recognized in the tuna world for the certification of this species, both for MSC and FOS, Lumar has increased its certified species by adding Alaska salmon, Alaska pollock and hake, all duly certified by the MSC.

These species complement a high quality product line and responds to the needs of its customers and consumers. These species are now presented as natural products into deep frozen portions and fillets bringing more diversity to the brand.

"This is another step in our effort to consolidate a policy of responsible fishing that Lumar has implemented years ago. There is no simple or singular scheme to solve the problems affecting the world of fishing practices to catch certain species in a responsible manner. So Lumar has always opted for an eclectic and varied system that give real answers to complex issues,"explains Alberto Romero, Director of Sustainability of the Galician company.

LumarKids is a new line of healthy foods that has in mind the nutritional needs of children and adolescents

"This is not about to put a simple logo and you're done, is about recognizing that we must work together to respect the marine environment from the fishing industry, considering the concerns of the NGOs and other stakeholders, the needs of supermarkets, to reach the final consumer,” said Romero.

Additionally, these new species that Lumar has added to its product line provides raw material for healthy recipes for its sauces and marinades, which have already won awards in various international competitions such as the European Seafood Exposition in Brussels and PLMA Amsterdam, where Lumar recipes have been recognized as healthy and innovative.

Lumar recipes come directly from fishing sources that respect the environment and that comply with all legal fishing requirements

This also will provide more value to new recipes, such as LumarKids, a new line of healthy foods that has in mind the nutritional needs of children and adolescents at a time when childhood obesity is causing real concern worldwide. Thus the youngsters will also enjoy rich and healthy fish.
